The Great River Guitar Show in Red Wing MN will be an exhibit and concert for the public to enjoy the craft and music of stringed instruments. There will be hand crafted acoustic and electric guitars, basses, amplifiers, banjos, mandolins, and ukuleles, from over 50 makers from the United States and Canada.
During the weekend, Jerry will be offering two guitar workshops as well as performing several demo concerts.
At 1:00 pm, Jerry will be teaching a workshop on alternating-bass fingerstyle guitar.
This guitar workshop is part of the Great River Guitar Show and is open to players of all ages and ability levels.
Workshop attendees will learn the skills and techniques that enable them to transform their current playing to sound more like players, such as John Renbourn, Leo Kottke, and Lightning Hopkins. Starting with your existing skills, Jerry Kosak will show you how to use techniques of folk and classical guitar to develop alternating-bass fingerstyle. Demonstrating how classical style bass accompaniment can evolve into alternating bass, Kosak will use Fernando Sor Study #2 and Freight Train to show how closely related these styles are. In addition, fingerstyle blues will be used to teach the technique of playing single-note constant bass style.
